Consultation & Investigations
Private Consultations offer you a more personal environment and experience, to discuss your medical problems with a specific, experienced and professional Consultant.
Your Private Consultation will usually involve discussion of your main symptoms and medical problems that you seek advice on, as well as:
- Your previous medical or surgical history
- Any medications or drugs that you may be taking, and known drug allergies
- Your personal circumstances, family considerations and any other factors that may influence your treatment options or potential procedural risk
- examination of any relevant body areas
Then a clear discussion of the clinical findings, potential diagnoses, and overall assessment will be provided.
You will be advised of any recommended further tests, scans or investigations if these are thought necessary.
New Consultations usually take up to 20 minutes, but can take longer for more complex problems, or to enable full discussion and consideration of your individual or any complex factors. If a significantly longer Consultation is required these will be charged on a pro rata basis.
Additional tests, scans or investigations if required will usually need to be booked for a further date, and you will be provided with the associated costs in advance, though some tests can be performed at the first Consultation if this is known in advance, you are agreeable to the additional costs involved (eg blood tests, some outpatient diagnostic procedures etc), and appropriate time is available.
Details of such costs are usually provided in advance, unless an urgent appointment has been made or the test was not anticipated, but indicative costs are available from the Business team or the clinic / hospital at which you have the appointment.
Follow up Consultations are to discuss the results of any tests, scans or investigations, what the implications of the results are, and what treatments or clinical strategies may be appropriate to consider. The relative advantages, disadvantages and risks associated with each option will also be discussed. These appointments are made for when the results are available to the Consultant. If treatment options include procedures or surgery the Consultation will normally also include discussion of what is involved in those procedures, whether there are any associated potential risks, and what the implications and recovery period is likely to be. These Consultations are usually similar in time to a New Consultation, and charged on a similar basis.
Post-operative/ post-procedural Consultations are to assess the early outcome of the procedure (usually within 3-4 weeks), and to discuss any concerns or questions regarding return to activities or work, any ongoing clinical problems, and what further management plans will be. These Consultations are usually shorter, and thus charged at a significantly reduced fee.
Very occasionally further tests or minor procedures may be recommended, in which case there may be additional costs involved, and you will be advised accordingly.
